3 Reasons Why You Need New Fasteners for Your Agriculture Equipment

By in

Your agriculture equipment needs to be tough—really tough. It needs to work in rain or shine, over tough terrain, and for big, long jobs and heavy loads. Naturally, you expect to be able to depend on them and the nuts and bolts used to make them, at least for a while. You shouldn’t have to worry about replacing fasteners within a few months of buying your new equipment.

But sometimes, when you’re putting your agriculture equipment through tough conditions, you might need to replace the original fasteners with new ones. Your machines aren’t indestructible and you put them through a lot, so sometimes they need some tender loving care in order to function properly over the long run.

Here are three reasons why you might need new fasteners for your agriculture equipment.

Cheap Originals

Unfortunately, if you’re not buying your agriculture equipment from a reputable manufacturer that invests in high quality parts for its products, you might need to replace your fasteners sooner than expected. When the original fasteners aren’t made with strong materials or if they don’t have the right coating to protect them, they can become damaged pretty quickly. To avoid this, make sure you’re only buying your machinery from top, reputable manufacturers that take care creating equipment that is built to last.

Improper Configurations or Manufacturing

Even if the manufacturer you choose to buy your machinery from isn’t cheaping out on the nuts and bolts used in its products to save a couple bucks, you could still run into damaged nuts and bolts simply due to bad manufacturing processes or improper configurations during the design process. When it comes to nuts and bolts, especially for agriculture equipment, exact configurations—down to the fraction of the millimeter—are necessary. The slightest variation can render them almost useless. If they’re not designed and manufactured correctly, they might not be built to last for the long haul or be able to handle the heavy loads applied to them, so they’ll break quickly.

Wear and Tear from the Elements

Even the strongest, perfectly calculated, designed, and manufactured fasteners won’t last you a lifetime. Agriculture machinery is meant to be used outdoors where it can be exposed to the elements, like snow, rain, heat, and cold temperatures. These extreme conditions can wreak havoc with the parts inside your machinery. Additionally, because you’re using this equipment to push, carry, or dig thousands of pounds repeatedly, you’re going to see some wear and tear. That’s just part of the job. Eventually, the nuts and bolts will weaken, rust, or break, even with the proper coating covering them for protection. Though hopefully, if they are high quality and properly designed and manufactured, you’ll still get a lot of use out of your machines before your nuts and bolts need to be repaired or replaced.

A Little TLC

If you’re seeing that your agriculture equipment is working improperly and isn’t functioning at top notch like it did when you first bought it, the fasteners used to build it might be the problem. If this is the case, check them out to see if they’re worn down, broken, or damaged in any way. If so, it may be time to repair or replace them, either on your own or through a reputable professional. Don’t let your machine get further damaged from bad nuts and bolts—get them replaced as soon as you notice a problem so you can count on your machines to do their job for years to come. Sometimes, you just need to apply a little TLC.
